Be Kind Be Vego
What is BKBV?
Be Kind Be Vego is an initiative of the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA), Sydney, also supported by BLIA Victoria (Melbourne), BLIA Western Australia (Perth) and Fo Guang Shan. In Buddhism, we believe that a meat free diet is a great way to practise compassion, being kind to our health, to the animals and to the planet. We are committed to promoting a meat free diet by providing ongoing support to those who pledge to adopt the vego diet and make a difference to this world.
Be kind to our health, to animals, to the planet
Research has shown that a plant-based diet is one of the best things we can do for our body. A meat free diet brings a variety of health benefits including better digestion, lowering body weight, reducing risk of some cancers and heart disease as well as lowering blood pressure.
Furthermore, practising vegetarianism promotes the protection of animals and our planet. The Australia average meat consumption per person per year is 116 kg, more than double the world average at 41.90kg. Meat consumption contributes to a vast amount of methane and other greenhouse gas emissions, concurrently creating an abundance of physical waste. Be Kind Be Vego aims to improve these statistics and leave a positive, lasting impact through spreading awareness of and raising support for the movement.
